Also a reminder that the Employment Standards Act states that Ontario employees must be paid for the following public holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Family Day
- Good Friday
- Victoria Day
- Canada Day
- Labour Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- Boxing Day (December 26)
Employees paid on an hourly basis need to be compensated for these statutory holidays. In order to qualify they must work their scheduled shift before and after the holiday. Pay for that day is calculated using total hours worked in the four weeks prior to the holiday, divided by 20. Salaried employees receive the public holiday off with pay.
